HSST    WANTS    YOU!!!

On January 21, HSST will host the third annual New England Challenge Cup synchronized skating competition at O'Brien Skating Rink in Woburn, MA.  The success of this competition depends upon all of us.  We each have volunteer hours to complete, and working at a competition is a great way to accomplish this.  Below is a list of jobs and their descriptions, as well as an online sign up. There is something for EVERYONE......all jobs are educational and FUN, with no prior experience required!  Shifts are an easy three hours in length, so there will be plenty of time left for watching the competition or doing another shift. Please read through the list and consider what hours you may be available to volunteer, and what types of positions interest you.  ALL VOLUNTEERS ARE WELCOME, including you, your friends and relatives, and your skaters who might like to come out and experience the competition from a different perspective. (If you don't know when your skater is skating, don't worry! We will make sure to work around it!)

******   Mark the date on your calendars and SCROLL DOWN to sign up online!!!  Thanks in advance for your help !!! *******

If you prefer, email Ronni Skerker (link below) to sign up via email.

Volunteer Job Descriptions:

REGISTRATION TABLE:  Register teams as they arrive.

JUDGES RUNNER:  Pick up results/report cards and take to posting place.  This is a great job for skaters or siblings, or for someone who likes to keep moving.

ENTRANCE/EXIT GATE MONITORS AND GUARD RUNNERS:  Open gate as teams enter and exit the ice.  Take guards from ice entrance to ice exit.

**LOCKER ROOM MONITORS:  Ideal for the organized, multi-tasking type!  Will work in tandem (depending upon arena layout) with the person assigned to the skater’s entrance.  This person will assist in directing teams to their locker rooms, giving the coach/team manager a warning as their ice time approaches, and escorting the team from the locker room to the entrance gate area.  Other duties may include checking the room for cleanliness and items left behind, after the room has been vacated.

**GYM/WARM UP AREA MONITOR: Assist in directing teams to an area where they can warm up in advance of competing. Monitor the skate bag storage, warm up area and skater bathrooms to ensure no team is monopolizing them.  Answer questions.

MUSIC RUNNER: Run music to and from announcer/music table for each flight.

TICKET SALES: Sell tickets (wristbands), pins and programs at the spectator entrance.

GREETER/RINK ENTRANCE/ACCESS CONTROL:  Check credentials as teams enter the “teams only” areas of the rink, and restrict access to spectators as needed. Check tickets (wristbands) as spectators enter the rink. Answer questions.

AWARDS:  Have medals ready for off ice awards ceremonies, and assist teams to get into position. This is a great job for older skaters.

MUSIC/ANNOUNCING:  Just what it says!  Announcing the teams and playing their music, mainly for practice ice (early shifts), but possibly during the competition as well, if you’re interested in getting this type of experience.

HSST VENDOR TABLE – Help sell team dresses and other HSST merchandise and keep the table looking organized and appealing.

FLOATER: A great job for the person who doesn’t like to stay in one place and who is comfortable with some ambiguity. Floaters will move around from position to position, covering for parents who are watching their skaters or going where extra help is needed.

Especially For Dads…….

GROUNDS CREW:  Assist with set up/break down, hang team banners, odd jobs.

PARKING LOT:  Be on duty in the parking area to help direct buses and answer questions. This will be easier than last year, since there is plenty of free parking in Woburn.

Please note that starred (**) positions require that the volunteer be 18+ years old and have a current CORI through Hayden FSC by January 1. For assistance with this simple process, email Ronni Skerker (link below).
