Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the 13th Annual Mayflower Marathon sponsored by 106.9 The Fox & FM99. This is one of our largest food/fund drives held every year.  This food and fund drive is held the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday so that we have plenty of food to provide to our community friends in need over the holiday season.  The "marathon" runs straight for about 57 hours beginning Friday morning at 5:30 a.m. through Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

The Mayflower Marathon will be held in the parking lot of Sam's Club at 12407 Jefferson Avenue, Newport News.  We are in need of volunteers to sort, pack, weigh and label boxes of non-perishable foods during the day and at night.  We are also looking for a couple of night owls to work the overnight shifts.  Most shifts are approximately 3 hours in duration except for the overnight shift, which is about 5 hours, and the 5:30 a.m. shift on Friday, which is 3.5 hours.  The volunteers for the overnight shift have to be 18 years old or older.

Children have to be at least 6 years old to volunteer.  Youth groups are welcomed and are mandated to have one adult chaparone as follows:  A) Two children ages 6-10  B) Six children ages 11-13 and C) Ten children ages 14-17.  We do have the right to restrict the number of kids if necessary.   

It will be cold during this time of year, so please dress warmly, in layers, gloves, scarves, etc. 

NOTE:  If you wish to receive credit for your volunteer time (for school, civic organization, etc.) you must have an application on file.  I will be happy to email an application to you, which you will need to return to me on or before the day that you volunteer.
